Rank Everything
Privacy Policy
Effective October 15, 2026 · Last updated October 15, 2026
Overview
Rank Everything operates the website settlenothing.com (the “Service”). This policy explains what information we collect, why we use it, when we share it, and the choices available to you.
Information we collect
Information you provide
- Votes and suggestions: the matchups you vote on, the choices you make, and item names or categories you suggest.
- Google sign-in information: if you sign in with Google, we receive information such as your name, email address, profile image, and Google account identifier. Authentication records may include tokens supplied by Google.
- Profile choices: your display name, whether you choose to make a vote profile public, and the public profile address assigned to it. Each account starts with a randomly generated display name; your Google name is shown to others only if you choose it as your display name.
- Lists you create: each list's title, description, items, whether it is published, and the votes cast on it. A published list shows its title, description, items, results, and your display name to anyone with its link.
- Communications: information you include when you contact us about support, privacy, or another request.
Information collected automatically
- Browser identifiers: a randomly generated browser voting identifier used to recognize duplicate votes, enforce anonymous-voting limits, and associate anonymous votes with your account if you later sign in.
- Device and network information: IP address, browser or device information, user agent, request times, and security or diagnostic information. Network addresses may be hashed for rate limiting.
- Cookies and local storage: session cookies keep signed-in users authenticated. Local storage may remember your browser voting identifier, matchup state, and advertising frequency information.
- Advertising information: Google and its advertising partners may collect or receive cookie identifiers, IP addresses, device information, ad interactions, and similar information when Google advertising code is present.
- Analytics information: when Google Analytics is enabled, Google may receive normalized page paths, general device and browser information, approximate location derived from an IP address, and events such as votes, skips, sign-in starts, successful suggestions, and sharing actions. Analytics events do not include item or suggestion names, your name or email address, the browser voting identifier, or public-profile and list links.
How we use information
We use information to operate the voting game; calculate rankings and matchup results; prevent duplicate, abusive, or automated activity; provide accounts and vote history; process suggestions; support optional public profiles and shared lists; understand general site usage; maintain security; diagnose problems; comply with legal obligations; and display, measure, and control advertising.
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we rely on performance of the Service you request, our legitimate interests in operating and protecting the Service, consent for activities that require it, and compliance with legal obligations.
Advertising, analytics, and Google services
We use Google AdSense to display and measure advertising. Third parties, including Google, may place and read cookies on your browser or use web beacons, IP addresses, and other identifiers as a result of ad serving. Google may use information from this Service together with information from other sites or apps in accordance with its own policies.
We may use Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate traffic and product usage. We do not send Google Analytics a user ID or the names, email addresses, profile or list links, browser voting identifiers, item names, or free-form suggestion text held by the Service. Analytics is configured without Google Signals or ad-personalization signals. Analytics storage is enabled by default where an advance choice is not required; in the EEA, United Kingdom, and Switzerland it remains disabled unless a consent tool records permission.
Learn more about how Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services. You can also review Google’s Privacy Policy and manage certain advertising preferences through My Ad Center.
When required, we use Google’s consent tools to request choices about cookies, local storage, personalized advertising, and participating advertising providers. We do not sell personal information for money. Some advertising activity may be considered a “sale,” “sharing,” or targeted advertising under certain privacy laws; where required, we provide a way to opt out.
When we share information
We may share information with service providers that help us operate the Service, including Google for authentication and advertising, Cloudflare for network delivery and security, Railway for application hosting, and database or infrastructure providers. These providers process information under their own terms and privacy commitments.
We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect users or the Service, investigate fraud or security issues, or complete a merger, financing, acquisition, or transfer of the Service. We do not publish your individual votes unless you deliberately enable public profile sharing. Votes on a shared list count toward the global rankings, appear in your own vote history, and are shown to others only as totals.
Retention
Votes are generally retained to maintain rankings and your vote history. Signed-in users can delete all of their votes from the My Votes page, subject to the displayed rate limit. Account records are retained while an account remains active and as needed for security, legal, and operational purposes. Session cookies generally expire after 30 days. Short-lived rate-limit counters are generally kept for no more than one day. Suggestions are kept while they are reviewed and managed. Service-provider logs and backups may remain for a limited period under provider retention schedules.
You may request deletion of your account information by contacting us. We may retain limited information where required by law or reasonably necessary for fraud prevention, security, dispute resolution, or enforcing our agreements.
Your choices and rights
- You can decline Google sign-in and use the anonymous voting allowance.
- You can delete your saved votes from the My Votes page.
- You can keep your profile private or disable public sharing.
- You can manage browser cookies and local storage through your browser, although disabling required storage may affect the Service.
- You can use the consent or privacy controls presented on the Service and Google’s advertising controls.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive a copy of personal information, and to withdraw consent or appeal a decision about a privacy request. To exercise a right, contact us using the address below. We may need to verify your request.
Children’s privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can review and delete it as appropriate.
Security and international processing
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect information, but no online service can guarantee absolute security. Information may be processed in the United States and other countries where we or our service providers operate, which may have different data-protection laws than your country.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Service, our providers, or legal requirements change. We will post the revised version here and update the “Last updated” date. Material changes may also be announced through the Service when appropriate.
